9:45-10:30 am Strategies and Solutions for Building and Maintaining for the Next Generation WebOPAC
John Culshaw, Associate Professor and Faculty Director for Systems - University of Colorado at Boulder
Many libraries struggle to keep up with the rapid change of technology.  Keeping the OPAC current is just one of many challenges faced today.  Innovative’s WebPAC Pro is likely the first step of many to integrate Web 2.0 technologies into our services.  John will describe the process that the University of Colorado at Boulder recently used to upgrade and enhance the public presence of Chinook, the Libraries’ Millennium system.  He will highlight issues to consider from re-indexing to RSS.  All of this, of course, includes keeping a close tab on designing interfaces that meet the needs of users as well as monitoring the library software marketplace to determine, for example, how future developments such as the Open Source movement might impact the OPAC and related services.

Reworking the OPAC : Tips and Tricks to Make Your Redesign Process Go Smoother
Steven Heser, Library Systems Administrator, Milwaukee County Federated Library System
The OPAC redesign process is difficult enough without all the technical challenges presented by the Innovative software.  In this presentation you will learn how that process worked for the Milwaukee County Federated Library System and how we worked around these challenges to provide an OPAC that meets the needs of both staff and patrons.  If you want something more than the “out of the box” OPAC and want to know what might be possible, this program is for you.  Some knowledge of HTML and web design may be helpful but is not required.
